IEW 2025: The use of ethanol was discussed in ‘India Energy Week 2025’ released in the capital Delhi. Such vehicles have been introduced in this event, which will speed up athanol. This will reduce dependence on petrol and diesel. Ethanol is emerging as an important option between rapidly growing energy crisis and air pollution in the country. Emphasis was laid on the use of ethanol during the program and several major schemes have been presented to promote it.
Production and use of ethanol in the country provides many benefits. It is helpful in reducing air pollution, as ethanol is a clean burning fuel. Secondly it saves foreign currency, because it reduces dependence on crude oil imports. This means that the government will fill the treasury. Third, this is an effective way to increase the income of farmers, because it keeps the prices of agricultural produce stable and farmers get more profits.
A mixture of ethanol in petrol is getting promoted
The Government of India started the ‘Ethanol Blending Program’ in the year 2020, the main objective of which was to promote a mixture of ethanol in petrol. This effort is towards achieving the target of 20% ethanol blending by 2025. The government has announced several financial and non-financial incentives to promote ethanol production, including the minimum support price for ethanol production, development of the infrastructure required for the installation of production units.
PM Modi emphasized on ethanol mixture
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Emphasized India’s important achievements in the ethanol mixture. He said that India aims to achieve 20 percent ethanol mixture by October 2025. He said that India’s biofuel industry is ready for rapid development, which includes 500 million metric tons of permanent feedstock. He also mentioned that during India’s G20 chairmanship, the Global Biofuels Alliance was established, which is continuously expanding. PM Mode believes that India’s move in the field of ethanol mixture and biofuel is an important milestone towards the country’s energy security and sustainable development.
